Get up and walk first. Every day. Gotta do it. Nothing to it. The smoothie at the end is the treat. Acai, banana, apple, juice of one lime or lemon, big scoop of peanut butter, frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries, one tablespoon each of chia seeds and ground flax seeds. Delicious. Every day.
The gym also. Hopefully a yoga class. If there’s none at a convenient time then it’s a straight workout. Maybe more walking on the treadmill. Steam room, shower, new clothes. Ready to bounce out into the world with great vigor.
I really have to read. It’s entirely necessary. Sometimes I start books that I like less than others and I feel I do need to finish them to get some sense of completeness. This involves dedication. I’m going to read a hundred pages today. If I do that consistently I’ll finish this book in 4 days. Just like a train. Once you stop it’s hard to get going again. Momentum will carry me down the line.
Music is very important. That’s the other best part about the morning walks and the gym. Always soundtracked by something cool. There’s a new Laurent Garnier album. He hasn’t released any music in years. This is the perfect tempo. But I want to make music too. Open up the sequencer. I need to enquire about those lessons. Just little steps, but steps nonetheless. You can’t get anywhere without them.
And I write these pieces. Some days I have more ideas than others. Sometimes you want to do it and other times the opposite is true. But I’ve found a solace and a rhythm in doing it every day whether I have anything to say or not. Because something always comes out, and we’re moving in the right direction.
